Founder and Creative Director Stephanie Carswell has a passion for creating that started way back as a kid in the 80’s, where you’d find her at the kitchen table doodling away, stitching, playing with clay or any of the other myriad crafts she’s turned her hand to over the years! Her studio is now full to the brim with all the crafts you can think of, though knitting is still alluding her!<\/p>\n
After opening her first business, a beautiful craft gallery and haberdashery space in rural Dorset, Stephanie taught herself the then unknown craft of needle felting. After becoming an established maker and tutor, her first starter kit was put together for workshop participants, and soon followed the idea for Hawthorn Handmade. 6 animal needle felting kits launched in May of 2013, and after a year of juggling both businesses, Stephanie took the decision to focus full time on Hawthorn Handmade and closed the gallery doors.<\/p>\n
Each kit is designed by Stephanie and her small team, often inspired by nature and the wonderful world of animals and plants. Kit designs range from sea creatures and woodland animals to trendy houseplants and the unique Wonderful Women collection, celebrating all the amazing women in our lives and our passions.
