Shark Motorcycle Leathers & Accessories was founded in 2009 by Matthew Kuhne. As a child, he always had a passion for motorcycles and raced bikes since the age of four. In an unfortunate motorcycle accident at just 19 years of age, Matthew broke his neck leaving him a quadriplegic. After two years of rehabilitation, Matthew reinvested his passion into starting his own business and Shark Motorcycle Leathers & Accessories was born. Starting from humble beginnings, in the family garage, Shark Leathers has grown into a brand, motorcyclist across the globe can afford and trust. Shark Motorcycle Leathers meets the high demands for his quality motorcycling leather riding gear, cruiser wear, gloves and helmets from the company\u2019s shopfront in Siganto Drive, Helensvale, QLD. It gives our customers the opportunity to see, touch and try on the bike gear before purchase.<\/p>\n
Shark Leathers also run a group of online websites supplying Australia and authorised distributors across the world with a huge variety of affordable, yet high-quality motorcycle clothing and motorcycle accessories. In 2011, they went on to win Gold Coast’s Business Excellence Award.<\/p>\n

Giving back to the community
\nIn addition to selling motorcycle leathers and accessories, the team at Shark Leathers pride themselves on giving back to the community. They have been involved in organising and participating in charity rides raising money for the Perry Cross Spinal Foundation, a cause very dear to their hearts and the Black Dog Ride, raising awareness about depression and suicide. Each year Shark Leathers gives around AUD $100,000.00 to local motorcycle clubs and gives away motorcycle protective gear to more than 50 young motorcyclists.

Despite a motorcycle accident leaving him a quadriplegic at 19 years of age, Matthew has not been one to let a wheelchair define him. The once former MotoGP champ goes from strength to strength. During his long rehab stint, Matt met other riders who’d broken bones, lost skin and limbs. He was amazed these riders never had the protective leathers his family and sponsors had always paid for. Matt was blown away that a full set of motorcycle leathers would set riders back between AUD $2,000.00 to AUD $3,000.00 so he was determined to set up a business that made safety gear available at an affordable price.<\/p>\n
