TERAPETE a company from the island of Crete

ABOUT US

Our name

The Ancient Greek word te-ra-pe-te (therapist / healer) was inscribed on clay tablets in the Linear syllabic script (c.1400 Bc). The tablets were found in excavations at the palace of Knossos and other places in Crete and Greece.

HOME PAGE

Crete with its hilly geography and warm Mediterranean climate, hosts a thriving ecosystem of over 1750 subspecies of plants – 160 of them indigenous to the island.

The vibrant Cretan nature has been inspiring the people who live here for millennia to create beautiful art, make the world-famous Cretan olive oil and many delicious and healthy food products.

At TERAPETE we find Cretan producers who cultivate with organic methods and actively care for the environment and biodiversity of the island.

Our product list is small because we want each of them to meet the need for excellent taste, great nutritional value, and responsible production methods.

We make sure our producers get fair pay so they can continue to work in ways that protect the environment and support local communities.

This way we can all enjoy the amazing taste and healing properties of Cretan olive oil and Cretan food for many years to come!

CRETAN FOODS

Koroneiki, the best olive variety for oil production, has been cultivated in Crete since the Minoan era.

At TERAPETE we work solely with producers who use organic farming practices and strive to preserve the biodiversity of the olive grove with its thousands of microorganisms and aromatic herbs that give the oil its unforgettable taste.

We choose only the best oils, the richest in polyphenols and anti-oxidants that protect the immune system and promote longevity.

We buy the oil at fair prices to support local businesses and communities that work to protect the unique Cretan ecosystem.

Enjoy the rich taste, bright colour and fruity aromas that make even the simplest dish a treat for the senses!

HERBS AND TEAS

The hot and dry Cretan summer forces aromatic herbs to produce extra essential oils to keep moisture in their leaves. This way, the plants gain powerful aromas and become rich in minerals and trace elements with many healing properties.

The herbs we are offering come from organic crops. The farmers plant and harvest them by hand because they want to preserve the balance of soil microorganisms. They dry the plants using natural methods and, after analysis and quality controls, package them carefully to preserve all the aromas and valuable elements.

Make hot and cold drinks to enjoy moments of well-being and respite throughout your day. Use them in your cooking to bring the feeling of Cretan summer to your table!
