The Angel Eyes series is a futuristic dystopian cowboy romance that is a mashup of western, dystopian (post-apocalyptic), and contemporary romance. The prequel, Jake’s Redemption, won the bronze in the Global EBook Awards and book one, Masters’ Mistress, was an Amazon #1 Bestseller.

It is a continuing story that passes from one book to the next and would appeal to those who found the adult scenarios in books like A Handmaid’s Tale and The Hunger Games intriguing. Or who enjoy the writing of other romance authors like Maisey Yates, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Karen Robards, B. J. Daniels, and Nora Roberts; as well as adult readers who enjoy dystopian with romance authors like Melanie Tays, Imogen Keeper, Margaret Atwood, K.A. Riley, and Kyla Stone, or who simply love cowboys.

Though this series of books do have sex on the page, they are NOT erotica but do contain some dark elements. Though readers are advised of this, please note that the story is predominately about family, trust, healing, and love.

“…Unlike most dystopian reads, even those which include romance between characters, Jake’s Redemption is firmly rooted in romance and doesn’t skirt the edges like most such fantasy novels. This translates to steamy sex scenes, percolating love, and a focus on interpersonal relationships that supersedes the usual focus on survival tactics and conflict.

This isn’t to say that the story is one-dimensional. Indeed, it is filled with psychological depth and insights. Jamie Schulz takes the time to explore each character’s growth process, and this is reflected in passages that reveal these changing viewpoints: “There was more to him than the trembling, half-starved, pitiable man who’d first arrived, and definitely more than just his handsome face. All of it made her wonder what else lay beneath his wary, kind, and sometimes curious eyes…”

… It’s rare to find a prequel that adequately covers the logic and progression of the novels to come. Often, such an attempt feels like an afterthought rather than holding real foresights to dovetail with the foundations of what is to come.

Jake’s Redemption carefully crafts a story that doesn’t feel like a manufactured tie-in, nicely pairing the feel of a romance read with the backdrop of a society where power has shifted and resulted in radical redefinitions of not just control, but love itself…

…Romance readers will relish Jake’s Redemption’s effective, unusual blend of dystopian sci-fi and the trappings of romantic passion, but sci-fi fans looking for something different will also appreciate the story of a world that has changed so much that lovers must find new ways of defining relationships and themselves.”

“…Dystopian fiction and romance have been inexplicably and delicately linked these past few years, and, looking at today’s headlines, it’s no wonder authors are drawing inspiration from the news and humanizing media figures the best way they know how. By all accounts, tossing rustic cowboys into this mix just shouldn’t work. But author Jamie Schulz not only weaves the diametrically opposed genres together, she crafts a thoroughly unique and engaging story that’s nearly impossible to put down in Jake’s Redemption. Genre-crossing walks a thin line, but Schulz melds the genres with aplomb. Even with the immense legwork that must be done to lay the rules for Schulz’s complicated world, Jake, Monica, and Angel all receive deeply layered character development. Plot and character work in tandem, with the horrors of Darla contrasting with the fiery passion between Monica and Jake. Once the reader acclimates to the world Schulz has created, many of the plot points will seem familiar–but never so much so the reader can rest easy. Nothing–not even a frightening dystopia–will stop the main characters from their happy ending, but how Jake and Monica arrive there is a truly fascinating journey that readers will eagerly devour. With such a strong prequel, the rest of the Angel Eyes series looks bright…”

Jamie Schulz has more than delivered with this awesome story of a cowboy struggling under the burden of emotional baggage. The attraction between Addie and Cade is immediate and only becomes hotter as the book continues. Granted, there is a hint of cliché in the storyline, but it is made better by the high quality of writing and the varied characters readers can relate to. Searing hot love scenes will have e-readers being once again used as fans when things get too hot. Do not miss a fantastic start to what promises to be an awesome series.”

𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵!! This was a well written romance with good buildup to the romance. I love a book with romantic tension and no instalove and this one delivers. The love scenes weren’t super cringey like so many others. Cade is a super sexy cowboy that any romance reader will fall for. The steam level is great, the suspense and action are tense. There are a few trigger warnings: sexual assault being the biggest of them. Addie is strong but sometimes I felt like groaning, like again? This poor girl was put through the wringer and had to take blow after blow. In the end this was a very enjoyable book and I read it all in one afternoon because I had to see how it ended. I also really appreciated the redemption arc for a side character and some of the other characters are great additions to the story line too. In the end this is a classic cowboy romance that fans of western romances won’t want to miss.
