Second Earth was born in Coogee, in Sydney\u2019s Eastern Suburbs back in 2016. We’re inspired by the Aussie beach lifestyle and the ever growing consciousness in society about health, wellness, hygiene and the impact on the environment of the choices we make every day.<\/p>\n
Like so many great people out there, we\u2019re inspired to live a more balanced life. For us, it\u2019s all about keeping fit and regular yoga practice. Yoga\u2019s about good mental, physical and spiritual health. And for this reason, we were surprised to learn that the PVC yoga mats we previously used were actually toxic to our health. To be honest, if it wasn\u2019t for my wife being pregnant, we probably wouldn\u2019t have realised just how bad PVC mats are!<\/p>\n
Every day we see people carrying around their PVC yoga mats and wonder if they know just how bad PVC is for them, their children and the environment. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is known to be toxic at every stage of its life cycle. We can be exposed to these toxins through inhalation and skin contact. And the results of long-term exposure can actually be devastating. Pretty scary stuff.<\/p>\n
If that wasn\u2019t bad enough, PVC isn’t biodegradable either, so your PVC yoga mat will end up in landfill long after you and I have left this planet.<\/p>\n
With all this in mind, we decided to combine our passion for fitness, healthy living, yoga and the environment, to create a business that would make a difference. <\/p>\n
And this became our mission \u2013 to create a yoga mat that was 100% sustainable and biodegradable but also one that would outperform any other mat we had ever used in terms of comfort, style, performance and durability. We weren\u2019t willing to compromise on performance so there\u2019d be no excuses when it came to choosing between a Second Earth eco yoga mat and any alternative.<\/p>\n
So we started working with the best manufacturers to design and create the ultimate yoga mat.<\/p>\n
After a lot of research and testing we landed on two types of yoga mats that met our lofty environmental and performance requirements. Both are 100% sustainable, eco-friendly and biodegradable and don\u2019t contain any PVC, plasticisers, glues or binding agents.<\/p>\n
Our 2E \u2018Connected\u2019 mats are made with all natural tree rubber and jute fibres and our 2E \u2018Affinity\u2019 mats are made with all natural tree rubber and cork and both mats provide incredible durability, functionality and grip.<\/p>\n
All natural products and no harsh chemicals mean our yoga mats are safe for children, pregnant women and the environment. Not to mention the manufacturers who aren\u2019t exposed to any toxic chemicals during the production process.<\/p>\n
What we also love about our yoga mats (and what our customers keep telling us) is their distinctive look and earthy feel thanks to the all-natural materials. It\u2019s a bit like practicing yoga on your own little piece of earth \u2013 your Second Earth. See what I did there? Nice little play on words I thought. <\/p>\n
We wanted to create mats made entirely of natural materials to try and replicate the earth and connect you to it during your yoga practice (but with the comforts of 21st century technology ;-)).<\/p>\n
