About The Willows Hypnotherapy
The Willows Hypnotherapy is my, Sue Wimpenny, solo practice. I am an experienced, clinically trained Solution‑Focused Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. Based in Highburton, Huddersfield, I work one-to-one with clients both in my quiet home clinic and online across the UK.

Rather than being part of a larger clinic or network, The Willows is my personal endeavour—built on my own journey through anxiety, burnout, grief, postnatal depression, self-doubt, insomnia, and more. Every aspect of the practice is tailored, compassionate, and grounded in lived experience.

Meet Sue Wimpenny – The Person Behind the Practice
For 35 years, I carved out a career in demanding industries—manufacturing, wholesale, retail, in roles spanning buying, merchandising, administration, and management. During that time, I experienced & witnessed firsthand the pressure and stress synonymous with high-accountability roles—from juggling deadlines to leading teams.

I also experienced personal challenges such as family grief, my own postnatal depression, intense exam-related anxiety, low self-esteem, insomnia, the symptoms of menopause and even suicidal thoughts. These experiences weren’t simply anecdotes—they were defining moments that shaped who I am, starting my healing journey and motivating me to help others.

That authentic understanding of what it means to feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or stuck is woven into every session I offer because when I describe the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to potential clients, I’m not speaking from theory—I have been there my.

Training & Credentials—A Commitment to Excellence
I discovered Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy through my own healing process. Recognising its potential, I enrolled at the Clifton Practice, widely regarded as the gold standard for SFH training & obtained the Diploma in Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH) & the Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD) accredited by NCFE & NCH.

On top of these, Sue holds professional registrations with:

National Council for Hypnotherapy (MNCH)
Association for Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy (MAfSFH)
Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (MCNHC)
National Board for Modern Psychotherapy (MNBFMP)
General Hypnotherapy Register

Following my qualification I continue to attend CPD’s to ensure I am up to date with the latest brain research and neuroscience, including child mental health, gut‑brain research, trauma-sensitive work, and brain-based approaches .

These qualifications and ongoing training mean my clients sessions are rooted in robust science and evidence-based practice.

My Approach – One‑to‑One Support, Every Time
Whether online or in my clinic, clients are always working directly with me—no assistants or trainees and I believe genuine therapeutic change comes from continuity, trust, and real connection. Building a strong, professional & friendly relationship my clients is a priority from the outset.

Every client’s journey is personal and I tailor each of their sessions to your specific needs and goals.

Solution‑Focused Hypnotherapy in Practice
Combining hypnosis with psychotherapeutic models (CBT, NLP, and Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy) my aim is not to negatively retrospect about the past or focus on trauma, but to:

Refresh the brain’s wiring via trance and suggestion
Reinforce positive patterns and build on what already works
Provide clear psychology explanations, so clients understand why they feel the way they do

Each session typically includes:

A solutions-oriented conversation—What’s been better, what minor changes you’ve noticed.
A short educational moment—How your brain works, especially under stress or anxiety.
A guided trance—A space of deep focus and receptive suggestion to embed new, helpful patterns.
Clients have described this blend as “comfortable, reassuring, and surprisingly fast-acting”

A Clinic With Heart (and a Dog!)
My therapy room is a warm, restful space—no clinical glare, no antiseptic atmosphere; just comfort, calm, and quiet. Willow, a rather affectionate cocker spaniel, may say hello if you’d like. She often brings extra calm, especially with teens or clients with anxiety

My goal is simple: a space where you feel seen, supported, and understood—not judged or rushed.

The Therapist Beyond the Sessions
I believe in the importance of balance—not just for you, but for me too. I live in Huddersfield with my husband, two sons, two cats, and Willow. Together we enjoy:

Walking, music & comedy.
Gardening as a mindful, grounding activity
Reading—especially books on neuroscience, hypnotherapy, or a classic mystery
Family time.
Spending time with friends.

My lifestyle reflects a belief that wellbeing is holistic—not just a result of therapy, but sustained through simple, daily practices.

I support my clients through a structured, flexible journey:

Free discovery call to discuss needs & goals
Personalised session plan—typically weekly or fortnightly, depending on goal
Practical takeaways—audio recordings, mindfulness prompts.
Ongoing support—tracking clients progress and adjusts strategies
Graduation—when goals are met, but maintenance sessions remain available

This plan ensures consistency, momentum, and long-term impact.
