The Separation Guide

The Separation Guide is a social enterprise that helps people go through their divorce or separation with the least pain, time and money possible. We’re the only tool in Australia that provides free resources to educate couples, a proprietary algorithm to match users with appropriate service providers, and connect them directly to make bookings with these service providers. We allow couples to be in control of the process, champion de-escalation, and provides support holistically across all facets of a divorce (such as financial planning, children support, psychology counselling etc.).

People looking for an impartial and easy to navigate pathway to divorce across Australia can look no further as we are guided by our Ethical Charter and strive to support all couples regardless of their circumstances.

How did it all start?

Every so often it becomes clear that the old way of doing things has simply stopped working and needs to be changed.

This is happening right now with separation and divorce.

What if a marriage breakdown could be an opportunity for growth instead? What if there was a way to lessen the pain and trauma of separation and build a basis for personal renewal, enlightenment, financial security, and peace?

What if we have separation all wrong and in stigmatising it we have created a self-fulfilling prophecy doomed to a blunt response and poor outcomes.

Angela Harbinson used her expertise in systems, information management and user experience to build Australia’s central hub for humanising and de-escalating separation and divorce: The Separation Guide.

For most of its history, separation and divorce have been the domain of the lawyers despite a human complexity that goes well beyond the blunt instrument of the law.

This complexity is psychological and emotional. At its core, separation and divorce is about people: people hurting, people confused and searching for answers, people desperate to care for their families and themselves. Separation and divorce don’t just affect the parties and their immediate families, it affects so many people, spilling out into our workplaces, our communities, our schools. ADD COSTS
