The Interaction Consortium

The Interaction Consortium (The IC, for short) is a software studio which designs and creates powerful web platforms which power beautiful, usable digital designs with information created by users and drawn from sturdily-built system integrations.

Main Services

Web application development, Museum website development

We apply our years of expertise and experience finding simple solutions to complex problems to creating the best user experiences, without compromising performance, stability or longevity.
The IC was formed in 2009 by four founding partners, each independent web developers. These days we are a private company managed by a team of principals and organised around continuous learning and knowledge-sharing. Each of our professional staff has their personal strengths, but everyone has experience in requirements analysis, UX design, front-end and back-end development and API integration. The mix of skills allows us to form fluid teams and collaborate smoothly within the firm, with our clients and with third-party suppliers.
In addition to these general skills, we have staff with strong specialties in information architecture, graphic design, information visualisation, accessible design, data migration and data import, devops, database optimisation and machine learning/AI.
One aspect of our work is designing and building web content systems – both the front-end and back-end. Our projects begin with targeted user experience research to design a series of online journeys and information locations which support the client’s strategy. In parallel, system integrations bring relevant organisational information together to meet the needs of visitors and the staff who engage them. The content system weaves all this together with a user-friendly authoring system to provide a platform for the organisation’s strategic, digital expression.
As central as these powerful integrated content management platforms are to our work, our experience also encompasses other web-based and mobile applications. These more general projects take a similar path of starting with research, but typically use a very iterative approach. We create a working prototype for our client to test and provide feedback on as fast as possible at the start of the project, then real requirements are developed iteratively against this prototype version. So, rather than imagining features in the abstract, clients can give targeted, specific guidance with reference to an application they can already use.
