Sydney Sashcords

We are a service business and cover the majority of the older areas of Sydney.
We repair and replace broken sash cords and their modern equivalents – ‘Spiral Balances’ which as the name implies are a spring based system

We work on:
Double-Hung (Sash) windows which usually comprise of two sashes each of which are hung in balance either by by a pair of cords (double hung) running on pulleys with a cast iron weight concealed in a pocket. Each of the 2 cords weighs 1/2 the total weight of the sash.
Over time the cords start to fray and become fragile and eventually break. This can sometimes be accelerated by the effect of the suns ultra violet rays breaking down the fibres of the cord.

Spiral balanced (sash windows) also 2 sashes but balanced by a pair of spirals which wind a spring in a tube located on the sides of the sashes where the cords would otherwise be and applies tension to hold it in position as the sash is opened.

Hopper or Awning windows, these are hinged at the top and usually have a pair of “friction stays” fitted to the sides which keep the window open through friction.

Casement windows, these are the side hinged windows which traditionally have a stay with holes mounted on the side of the frame or the sill and have a pin to secure the window open in a number of different positions.

We only work on wooden windows and have been making high quality wood repairs since 1984.
We know how and when a window can be repaired cost effectively and when it is better to replace the window.
