Surplus traders

Each week, we save tonnes of reusable resources from going into landfill by giving tradies, builders, suppliers, wholesalers and even DIY renovators a place to move, sell and trade their Surplus stock.

– What’s ‘Surplus stock’? –
Think overstocked/discontinued flooring lines, non-structural timber, damaged or second grade decking and landscaping supplies.
*Home reno/DIYers – it might be the leftover stock from that home project you’ve finally finished
*Suppliers – it could be those pallets in your jam-packed warehouse that you’re paying to store there but just aren’t moving. Why not clear the space and make way for something new?
*Builders/tradies – it could be that top quality stuff you didn’t end up using on your last job (or those custom mouldings the customer said to go ahead and order, then changed their mind!!). Either way, it’s a great idea to improve your cashflow!

– Is it all seconds and damaged stock? –
No!! On top of the true ‘Surplus’ stock we’re known for, we also work with some of Australia’s top mills and timber suppliers to bring you top quality, first grade timber and building materials – ensuring a convenient, one-stop-shop for our busy customers.

– I can’t find the product I’m looking for –
If it’s not in the warehouse or on our website, just ask our friendly team – we often keep hidden gems up our sleeves! We have access to an enormous range of products from many of Australia’s biggest and most reputable suppliers – we just couldn’t stock it all! If it’s not in stock, don’t stress – we may be able to do it to order (usually arrives within 1-2 business days) – ask us for a price/timeframe today!

– Are you open to the public? –
YES! Everyone’s welcome at Surplus Traders – we open to all trades AND the public – each and every day of the week.

– Is there a minimum order? –
Nope! No order is too big or too small.

– ABOUT OUR FOUNDER –
Established in 2020, Surplus Traders is a young, innovative player in the building materials game.
Our owner and founder Michael Milligan comes from a long line of European builders. Being a born entrepreneur however, Michael pursued his inherent calling as a businessman instead. Having spent his childhood on the construction site and backed by four generations of builders before him, combining his building heritage and passion for business was a natural evolution.

In 2014, at age 29, Michael spent six months living in the Netherlands. During this time, he established a relationship with a Dutch family who are owners of the biggest and longest running timber yards in Europe. His goal was to bring European quality French Oak flooring and other timber materials, to Australian shores. Michael returned home to Brisbane with a container full of samples and set to work building a business – and so, his first company – European Hardware began.

However, it was purely by accident (or perhaps a stroke of luck), that Surplus Traders was born out of European Hardware. Michael’s early years in business saw him establish solid partnerships with many local Queensland flooring suppliers. It was only when they observed Michael’s unmatched knack for selling, they began to suggest he move some of their old/excess stock from their warehouses. The rest is history really, from there it expanded to large quantities of decking, landscaping supplies and more – we even have a kitchen sink or two!
