Rub ‘n Restore® Colors and Clear Prep+Finish™ were developed in the early 1980s. Their inventor sold distributorships to leather repair professionals throughout the United States.
Among the distributors was Catherine ‘CC’ Christensen. She was working 60-80 hours a week, pressed against the glass ceiling of the local cable company, and longed for a more artistic career that allowed her more time with four-year-old Lesandre.
Catherine saw a newspaper ad for the distributorship. She received a two-day crash course and then spent over twenty years developing and honing her own techniques on the used car lots, body shops, RV dealerships, and hangars of Southern California from her mobile studio. She named the business ART: Advanced Restoration Technologies, but her clients affectionately dubbed her “The Vinyl Lady” which ultimately stuck.
At the age of eight Lesandre sprayed her first door handle on a Ford Taurus – not without much overspray. She apprenticed for five years during college and operated Vinyl Ladies for ten more. During that time Lesandre hauled away other leather and vinyl repair products with which Catherine had collected and experimented over the years.
They both recognized the ease and versatility of the product now known as Rub ‘n Restore® and it’s ability to transform DIY vinyl and leather repair.
Catherine and Lesandre launched a YouTube channel and built website during their spare time. Within a couple years, Rub ‘n Restore, Inc. was viable enough such that Vinyl Ladies was sold.
