We are Broadway Restaurant Utrecht
For 30 years, we’ve been pampering our guests with top-quality meat, delicious wines, and service with a smile. At Broadway, we always go that extra mile.

Discover our unique location: two atmospheric cellar vaults, hidden in the heart of Utrecht. Just a stone’s throw away from the Dom. Away from the hustle and bustle of Utrecht, yet right in the middle of the Oudegracht.

Magical Atmosphere
In the Ancient Vaults of Utrecht

The Dom, Miffy, Hoog Catharijne, but certainly also the wharves and wharf cellars of the Oudegracht. You can’t find them anywhere else in the world, and we are very proud to be part of the magic of Utrecht with some of the 732 unique wharf cellars.

From Tunnel to Wharf Cellar

The water level of the Oudegracht, constructed in the 12th century, is exceptionally low. Very convenient, as it meant that the canal couldn’t overflow. But also inconvenient: due to the height difference, it took a lot of effort to get the merchandise from the boats to the storage cellars of the houses above. The cellars of these canal houses were not connected to the wharves. A clever merchant therefore built a tunnel from the wharf to his house cellar. Other homeowners quickly followed suit, and the narrow tunnels became increasingly wider. These are the wharf cellars as we know them today.

A New Era

The cellars and wharves fell into disrepair from the late 19th century when the transport of goods over land instead of water became increasingly important. However, the municipality of Utrecht became the owner of the wharves in 1948 and began restoration. Afterwards, the homeowners found new purposes for their wharf cellars: restaurants, studios, workspaces, residences, and B&Bs. At Broadway, we combine the magical atmosphere of Utrecht’s wharf cellars with rugged luxury and the highest quality meat and fish. Inside the cellars or outside on the wharf terrace: Broadway is the place to be!

There’s something to celebrate
Grandma’s birthday, promotion at work or finally passed your driving test? At Broadway, there is a lot of celebration and the reason for this is also gladly shared with our staff. The nicest one we heard recently was this one:
‘I had my leg in plaster for weeks and could barely walk. So I couldn’t go to Broadway. Now the plaster is finally off and that should be celebrated right away, I’ve missed your steaks so much!’

After shopping
Not to be missed, of course: the guests coming down the wharf stairs loaded with shopping bags. Sometimes they come by spontaneously in the hope of getting another table, but more often they have, very cleverly, already made a reservation in advance.

The 1st date… or the 100th?
Our staff picks them out in no time: the couples who are clearly on a first date. Sometimes it looks awkward, other times the romance just splashes off immediately. And occasionally the staff is completely wrong:

Don’t feel like cooking
Yes really, that’s a reason: completely done with the daily ‘What needs to be eaten again?’ or ‘Don’t feel like shopping again!’. We totally understand and we say: just give in, everyone deserves an evening off from the cooking grind, right?

The Business Dinner
That sounds a bit solemn, but it can also be a less formal working dinner with colleagues. But in any case: the approach may be work-related, but in the execution we often see that conviviality and enjoyment still predominate. Take off those ties too, because let’s face it: they only get in the way when you eat spare ribs.

Start of a night out
The classic, of course: you go to the movies, the theater or do a pub crawl with friends. So why eat at home first when you can start the evening by letting yourself be pampered by us?
Our tip: are you stuck with a start time of the film or theater performance? If you also pass this on to the staff, they can take it into account.

The Marriage Proposal
“Are you serious?”
Yes, we are very serious: there are real marriage proposals on Broadway. No, we’re not going to reveal who or how often this happens, but our tip: our love-seats are of course the perfect place for it.

The tradition
Every week, twice a month or once a year: for many people, a night on Broadway is a long-standing tradition. For example, as a summer holiday with the family, every month with your regular group of friends because the rest of the month there is just no time for each other or even every week with your parents. At Broadway, we take great pride in being part of our guests’ traditions, some of them for decades.

Unexpectedly
You’ve seen our sign at the top of the canal and you’re curious, it was your turn to pick a restaurant for a night out and you picked something at random or you read about us and you thought ‘why not?’: the just guy is a welcome guest on Broadway. Because once you’ve been with us, it means guest-for-life. How else do you think we get those hundreds of regulars.
