Patrick McDermott Publishing Business Description:
In addition, I have published several online non-fiction short stories on my website https://www.pj-mcdermott.com
I was inspired by the classic SF writers. Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, HG Wells, John Wyndham, Arthur C. Clarke, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, E.E. “Doc” Smith, and Philip K. Dick all wrote imaginative stories I will never forget. My SF novels have a similar feel to these master story tellers.
My objective as a writer is to attract as many people as possible to read my work. I’d also like sales to break even with marketing costs.
There are three distinct market segments I want to appeal to:
1. Science fiction and fantasy readers looking for “clean” futuristic space adventures with a supernatural thread running through the story.
a. Products:
i. Born of Fire – prelude to Prosperine Series (eBook and Audio Book)
ii. The Alien Corps – book 1 (eBook, Print and Audio Book)
iii. Rise of the Erlachi – book 2 (eBook, Print and Audio Book)
iv. The Scarf – book 3 (eBook, and Print)
v. Fractured Prophecy – book 4 (eBook, and Print)
vi. Prosperine is available as a trilogy and 4-book series in eBook and print)
2. Readers who enjoy gritty coming-of-age stories set in a historical context where the protagonist is facing life-changing challenges. Readers who enjoy the nostalgia of a 1960’s setting in UK.
a. Products:
i. Small Fish Big Fish: A coming-of-age novel
ii. Guilt of the Innocents (online only)
iii. Sting Like a Butterfly (Free short story)
3. Readers who like non-fiction autobiographic short stories.
a. Online Products only
i. How not to become a writer
ii. My fight against the Big C
iii. Childhood memories of growing up in Scotland
Target demographics:
• Young adults, 15y.o. to 25 y.o.
• Adults 50+
• Male/Female ratio 60:40
• Worldwide geographics, but bias towards those with UK connections for market segment 2
• Most sales of SF books in USA
Marketing Strategies:
Drive people to website:
