Boasting minimal silhouettes and graceful contours, our products honour concrete’s natural material properties and its ability to take shape in different forms.
Having developed a comprehensive mix design library with 15 custom pigments, mudd has set out to create a refined colour palette that contemporizes and brings life to the concrete material. The options range from vibrant, bright colours to more muted and saturated tones. With over 105 variations available, creatives and homeowners can enjoy the selection process by purchasing samples from the brand’s transactional site. The uniquely shaped samples are intended to mimic the shape of the brand’s Odet model and illustrate the same smooth contours and edges found in its basins. “We want our clients to enjoy the semi-custom nature of our brand and have the opportunity to touch and feel the material before bringing it into their space” says Esther Vanee, cofounder of mudd. concrete.
Each basin features a gradual slope at the drain opening to allow for a variety of different drain sizes. The hardware is intended to glide through the opening and seamlessly make contact with the material at it’s outermost diameter. While functional, the contour of the slope also creates moments of highlight that accentuate form. These contours are repeated at all transition planes to soften the sinks interior and guide all water-flow towards the center. Slim-edges impose delicacy to an otherwise robust and industrial material. Rounded edges are softened, while maintaining visually clean lines. Symmetry is repeated throughout to encourage basins to be flipped, turned and re-oriented depending on the space — with the option to display or hide our artisan mark.
The series can be described as an artistic, contemporary interpretation focused on creating versatile, simplistic forms to suit a variety of different bathroom spaces. Using concrete derived from natural ingredients, mudd concrete’s hand-casted bathroom sinks are each made-to-order, extremely durable and soft to the touch.
As a response to the shift for wall-hung sinks in the market, mudd launched the Affix collection: a versatile adaption of its existing designs. The collection borrows its name from the word “Affix”, meaning “to fasten something to something else”—a reference to the mounting of a basin to the wall. Intended to introduce adaptability, the Affix collection allows designers, architects and end-users to incorporate a floating basin in their bathroom designs, instead of having them installed on a surface, vanity or countertop.
Developed as an extension of mudd. concrete’s existing countertop basin designs—the Affix collection utilizes custom steel brackets to enable standalone wall mounting. “This extension transforms our basins into a true standalone piece with a sculptural look and feel,” explains Esther.
The basins stand out for their minimalist silhouettes, clean edges and delicate contours, design elements which are showcased even more with the absence of surfaces or cabinetry. “The focus shifts back to the details that drove the design. It is almost as if our basins should have always been used in this way” says Esther.
