Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries

Also known as KIT Ministries, Kingdom Impact Theater was founded in the 1990s by actors in the Chicago theater industry to teach high school students theater, and to be a bridge between professional performers and church ministries who shared a common faith in Jesus Christ.

From this foundation, KIT Ministries has developed a mission to entertain, educate, equip and empower individuals in churches and community settings who claim a relationship with Jesus and those who are curious about Christ.

The KIT Ministries performance repertoire includes:

— live ensemble revues of comedy, drama and music;
— solo music and monologue performances on women’s issues, created and performed by co-founder Vikki J. Myers;
— a monthly, online Christian variety-talk program, “An Evening with Kingdom Impact Theater,” that features music, live and recorded scenes by the KIT Ensemble and invited guests.

Musical offerings by Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries include:

— musical concerts for special events, featuring Vikki J. Myers;
— a women’s trio, Chos3n (Chosen Three);
— leading corporate congregational gatherings through “Christ-Center Worship,” an eclectic mix of musical genres connected by dramatic oral interpretations of Bible Scripture.

The educational component of Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries has two unique feature:

— an array of workshops in team-building, conflict management and leader development that connect Scripture and theater improvisation principles such as the efficacy of humor and “Yes, And…” Most sessions have been developed and are facilitated by Michael Edgar Myers, KIT Ministries’ founding artistic director.
— a series of interactive plays for schools and community agencies that illustrate positive and negative effects of how Christian faith has influenced world and American history, while at the same time inspiring conversation how exploring Christian faith is essential to address cultural issues as race relations, gender identity, mental health, violence and more.

Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries is based in the Chicago suburb of Elk Grove Village, IL, and is a department of Artists in Christian Testimony Intl, a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization based in Brentwood, TN. Through A.C.T., Kingdom Impact Theater receives financial gifts and on-going training in fiscal and spiritual accountability.

Part of the spiritual accountability is the company motto, “The best scripture is Scripture,” which was established when the ensemble was founded as a church drama ministry in 1997.

” ‘The best script is Scripture,’ is the litmus test for everything we create or choose to perform,” says artistic director Michael Edgar Myers. “Whether it’s a scene, song or short story, we study the lines to see how the words stack up with what scripture says before we perform it.

“We’re not quoting Scripture every moment in every scene, but it’s our responsibility to make sure that even if there’s not a specific Bible phrase quoted as dialogue, the essence of the Scripture is clear. That’s especially true when it comes to applying Scripture to what might be considered hot-button issues today.”

Addressing “hot-button” issues without creating a hostile environment is among the reason Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries developed a concept called #SafeFaith, a process of encouraging public conversations about faith without differing views dissolving into riotous discourse. A component of #SafeFaith offers study guides or post-show conversations for select shows and workshops.

“Many people believe it’s impolite or illegal to talk about matters of faith, especially Christianity, in public,” Myers says. “Talking faith is neither impolite, nor illegal. The problem is HOW we discuss faith. Whether we admit it or not, lots of people WANT to talk about spirituality and faith. We’ve discovered this as we’ve traveled and talked with Christians and non-Christians. Through the common experience of a show or concert, people are more open and relaxed to talk about matters of the heart.

“I think, ultimately, from a scriptural basis, the purpose of Kingdom Impact Theater is in those three words. Jesus often spoke of how ‘the kingdom of God’ is here or near, among us; not just a far off mystical place. Our role, our calling, is to tell of the nearness of God’s Kingdom, so people can see how God’s kingdom has a direct impact on daily life, and we tell and demonstrate through theater and related media.”
