Gary Box, the founder, grew up in the sixties and seventies at a time when muscle cars were daily drivers. Gary started modifying and racing at a young age. He quickly built up a reputation for having fast cars. Soon people would follow him home from the track wanting to buy the engine right out of his car. People bought his engines so much he swapped them almost every week. Eventually, he just started building engines for his friends and other local racers out of his garage. He also started flipping hot rods to fund his racing habit as he got married and had kids.

In 2007, Gary with his wife, Margaret and his son, Cory, leased their first commercial location and open the doors of Box Performance Inc. At the new shop, they continued building custom engines but added working on performance cars. They did bolt ons and ground up performance builds.

Today, the Box Shop has refocused on custom performance engines for Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, Oldsmobile, and GM cars. We can build stock to race and anywhere in between. Whether you want an all-out race engine or if you are just looking for a fun engine with a nice sound, we can do that too. Maybe you are a weekend warrior and want to cruise and race, we can build an engine that will help you do both.

When you choose a custom-built engine, we discuss options with the customer so they can choose between brands and have a choice in the cubic inch and horsepower outcomes. At the Box Shop customers get to be a part of the engine build process. Many like to come in and check out their parts before assembly and be here when it is running on the run stand before pickup.
If you are a customer that is in a hurry for an engine, we have new and rebuilt engines in stock ready for pickup. We also have a few rides for sale. Nobody can build a blower engine like Box Performance. Our supercharged engines have an aggressive sound that people love. This popularity comes from our very own Boxvette. A Blown 1965 Corvette that has won many racing events and awards. It has raced on Discovery Channel and won $10,000 at Roadkill Nights. Not only is it beautiful it is fast. We have proven that blower surge does not reduce the engine’s performance at all. The Boxvette has even gone viral on social media for its blower surge and now people come from all over to get the same sound for their blower engines.
